General Evil Three: PRIDE

While the Misfits tended to try to 'even the score' and involve themselves with the workings of Jem and company, it continuously blew up in their faces. So, when it sinks in that they should leave themselves out of competition with Jem, the Misfits try and go do their own thing - most notably the Glitter and Gold contest - Jem HAS to step in and 'put them in their place', which is of course a poor second to herself.

Some may rationalize that Jerrica was only reacting to semi-catty remarks the Misfits made, but what about the 'sticks and stones' argument? The Misfits did Jerrica no actual harm, as she had not been Jem for some time - in fact RELIEVED that she could 'just' go back to running the company 'all by herself'. Yet when it was suggested that Jem was some flash in the pan here-and-gone while the 'dirty trash' Misfits proved to have 'staying power' by virtue of simply still being around, Jerrica's pride forced her to ACT and 'show them who was boss'.

In fact, most of the episodes have Jem rushing to the 'rescue' of the world before it is ruined by the likes of the Misfits/Stingers, whilst other bands are patently ignored. This suggests that she's still harboring a grudge against Mr. Raymond, as it is only bands that HE has dealings with that she seems intent to 'stop'. What few other musical acts enter Jem's turf are summarily trundled into her service (Jem Jam, Laura Holloway) or opposed should they DARE choose the 'wrong' side (Zomboys, Stingers).

God help anyone that disagrees with Jem's 'Center of the Universe' stance as they will be rounded up and 'shown the light' or 'destroyed'. With me or against me morality is not the same as morality.

Conversely, the 'evil' Stingers and Misfits try to be successful much the same as Jem does, and much the same as Jem does try to use whatever opportunity comes their way to further those ends. That when Jem does this is 'good' and anyone else doing the same is 'evil' strikes me as odd, since at least the 'evil' groups offer fair recompense for services rendered while those that serve Jem simply get to be part of the winning team...
